From the President's desk... This is the President's Corner
As a continuation of our discussion on our Knapp Air Logic Operational Excellence (KALOE) program, I want to explain how Principle #2 – A Process-Focused Approach That Minimizes Waste and Improves Efficiency aligns with the 6S events that have been occurring in your work areas.
S #1 – “Safety” Always think about the Safety of the person who will do the work after the continuous improvement event is complete. Try to remove unsafe conditions from the current process and don’t add any new ones to the improved process.
S #2 – “Sort” the necessary work tools or fixtures from the unnecessary items to optimize the process. Try to minimize and pick only the essential items to be efficient, as you will have to continually 6S all items that remain after this step.
S #3 – “Set In Order” all of the necessary work tools and fixtures by making a permanent labeled location for them so that if something goes missing, it stands out, can be easily replaced, and prevents you from stopping work unintentionally. Higher-use items should be located closer to you and your core process.
S #4 – “Shine” all of the necessary work tools and fixtures. All tools, fixtures, work stations, and machines should be in as close to new condition as possible.
S #5 – “Standardize” on the 6S color codes and principles so that when you are transferred from one work center to a new one, you will be confident you have all of the resources to be successful with minimal training.
S #6 – “Sustain” S1-S5 daily, it’s no longer a project, it’s embedded in your daily work, and daily maintenance should be minimal. It should support higher daily productivity, not detract from it.
My hope is that, with this additional knowledge, you will embrace the 6S activities coming to your area, and I thank you in advance for your continued support!

Let me say, what an absolute joy it was to work with Nancy, Ciara, Deanea, and Nelli! You can tell these ladies were so excited to have their area be a showcase of 6S perfection!
Nancy says, “I really appreciate coming into my area knowing how clean it is. Shipping looks GREAT! Thank you again, and we’re going to get that trophy from J-FILL!”
J-Fill, Molding, EA, Shipping, and now Air Logic are in process!!!! Next issue of our newsletter we will view the 6S of welders and general assembly in Air Logic that took place on the 18th of February!
